Liberon Finishing Oil
The iroko seats in our Traditional Range are planed and sanded as standard, and can have two coats of Liberon finishing oil applied, if required. This oil is superior to teak oil, which most other manufacturers use, because it has the addition of tung oil and artificial dryers in its composition.
The oil therefore dries properly (unlike teak oil), much as a varnish would, which means that there is no risk of clothing becoming contaminated after installation. Liberon enhances the appearance of these seats only for the first few months after installation. The oil then fades due its exposure to sunlight and rain. If left untreated most of the oil will have disappeared after about 12 months and
the seat will then be a light ash grey colour. It will remain this colour if left untreated. Applying finishing oil after the seat has turned ash grey will not properly restore the rich golden colour the seat originally had.
If the condition of the seats is reviewed at six monthly intervals and finishing oil applied, this will help to maintain the original colour the seat had when it was delivered. We sand the top surfaces of the seat by hand after applying the first coat. We do this to reduce the amount of grain raised by the oil. Some areas of raised grain may be apparent, even after the second coat of oil has been applied, because of the variability of the texture of the iroko.
